Dear Prospective Archery Club Member and Parents,
The sign up is now open for the 2024-2025 WDPMS/IS Archery Club! Please carefully read through the information below. If you feel that Archery Club would be a good fit for you, you will need to visit the links below to complete the registration process.
Important items to consider before committing to Archery Club:
The Archery Club is open to 5, 6, 7, & 8th grade students. This is an “Olympic” style of archery where rounds are shot from 10 and 15 meter distances. Any new archers to the program must go through an orientation by the National Archery in the Schools Program(NASP). We will provide this training during the first 2 weeks of practice. All students must use a Mathews Genesis Bow, and they may not use a release or a sight on the bow.
Archery practices start in November for new archers and December for returning archers. The majority of our practices will be after school in our Middle School gymnasium. The exact times of practice will be determined based on enrollment. The practice schedule does vary depending on the availability of the gym. We are currently looking at Wednesdays and Fridays from December through March. Once the calendar is completed we will send that out to the archers. The school will supply the bows, arrows and targets for the Archers. 2nd,3rd and4th year archers traditionally buy their own bows so that they do not have to share, and so that they can fine tune them to their liking. More information on how to order bows will be shared at the first few practices.
Please note: Consistent practice attendance is required to be a member of the WDPMS Archery Team. All absences must be pre-approved with one of the coaches. Archers are expected to attend an average of at least one practice per week. Archers will not be able to participate in tournaments if they are not attending practice on a once per week average.(50 % of the practices)
We traditionally have around 7 tournaments scheduled for our club to shoot in. We will let the Archers know as soon as these dates are released. Our state tournament has historically been held around the time of our spring break. Archers will be required to shoot in a minimum of 2 tournaments prior to participating in the State Tournament. Students will be allowed to practice and then compete when and if they are comfortable doing so.
We will be having a fundraiser this year. Those details will be discussed at one of the first practices.
