We Build The Skills That Make America Great
Overview
Skills USA is a national organization serving high school and college students and instructors who are enrolled in training programs in technical, skilled, and service occupations, including health occupations.
Membership
Skills USA has 239,000 student members annually, organized into more than 13,000 chapters and 53 state and territorial associations (including Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands).
Mission
Skills USA is an applied method for preparing America's high performance workers in public vocational-technical programs. It provides quality education experiences for students in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development. It builds and reinforces self-confidence, work attitudes and communications skills. It emphasizes total quality at work: high ethical standards, superior work skills, life-long education, and pride in the dignity of work. Skills USA also promotes understanding of the free enterprise system and involvement in community service.
Partners
Currently, some 13,500 teachers and school administrators serve as professional Skills USA members and instructors. Nationally, more than 500 business, industry and labor sponsors actively support National Skills USA through financial aid, in-kind contributions, and involvement of their people in Skills USA activities. Many more work directly with state associations and local chapters.
Programs
Skills USA programs include local, state and national competitions in which students demonstrate occupational and leadership skills. At the annual national-level Skills USA Championships, approximately 3,800 students compete in 66 occupational and leadership skill areas. Skills USA programs also help to establish industry standards for job skill training in the classroom.
